Yes. This workshop involves multiple work sessions to practice your process of developing and refining choreography, and relies heavily on the presence of the entire cohort. Admission preference will be given to those with no conflicts over the workshop duration.
This workshop is designed for the early- to mid-career fight director or choreographer. As such, some prior choreography experience is preferred, but not required. Significant stage combat training across a variety of disciplines is recommended.
You absolutely are welcome to, and we'd love to have you! It will certainly feel like a different workshop, both in structure, material covered, and teaching styles. Further fight director training is always a significant boon to becoming a better fight director, and the more voices and teachers you can learn from, the more positive impact it can have for your future fight direction work.
If you attended the 2023 Summer Sling Fight Choreographer's Track, you will find some overlap with the structure to that workshop, with both having the same leadership. However, there will be a different slate of guest instructors, new curriculum content, your assigned scene to choreograph and your cohort members will be different, plus there is an extra day offered this time to allow us to provide further instruction and choreographic time, so your experience should definitely be a new one!
It is not! The Fight Director Training Workshop is not officially connected to the SAFD's FDW, and is not a prerequisite for future FDW attendance. The Fight Director Training workshop is focused on building your choreographic tool kit, and no formal assessment or certification is incorporated into the curriculum.
